The Mitchell Institute invites you to check out a discussion with the RAND Corporationā€™s Lt Gen Frank Klotz, USAF (ret) and Dr. Alexandra Evans discuss their recent report, Modernizing the U.S. Nuclear Triad, The Rationale for a New Intercontinental Ballistic Missile. Recognizing that the replacement of the Minuteman III ICBM has rekindled a debate regarding the value nuclear deterrence provides to the nation, Lt Gen Klotz and Evans evaluated the arguments, pro and con, regarding this conversation, while assessing the role modern strategic deterrence plays in the current defense environment, with particular focus on the land-based competent of the triad. Our discussion focuses on current U.S. nuclear weapons policy, the changing strategic landscape, the various views regarding triad modernization, and implications for the U.S. Air Force.
